Introduction

There is a group of values, attitudes, and intellectual and behavioral skills that constitute capabilities that should be available with all individuals irrespective of their career paths, because they are deemed vital in order for the individual to be an effective member in any organization and at any level. Yet, they are crucial for the success and happiness of the individual in the different life aspects. Therefore, they actually represent the common denominator between the successful individuals in their practical lives and those who deserved to be called professionals.

Therefore, such group of capabilities has been identified to be “the professional values and skills” within the basic capabilities system that is to be addressed through many curricula, and we would cover one of them under the title “Self-Management & Self-Development”.

The unit of “Self-Management & Self-Development” aims to assist the trainees to determine their strengths, realize their value in their personal success and the total success of their organizations, which would eventually boost their self-confidence, and enable them from setting their goals of personal development, putting the action plan, achieving such goals, enhancing the value of alignment between the goals, values, personal behaviors and the goals, values and expectations their organizations, and the practical mentoring to achieve such alignment.

This material is divided into four chapters: the first, it takes about the tertiary recipe for success, and the self-management and -development system, whereas this chapter aims to identify all the core pillars of success and how to achieve it, besides the identification of the basic elements of the self-management and -development and the main reasons that lead to either the success or failure of the individuals in the society.

Second chapter “Know Yourself”, it takes about the benefits of the human values system and how to determine the drives and needs influencing the behavior, and determining the core capabilities and strengths of the individual and how to reach them.

Third chapter “Develop Yourself”, it explores the seven habits of the most effective people, and how to implement them in the real life, and how to gain the required behaviors and skills.

Fourth and last chapter “Plan Your Future”, it explores how to determine the basic elements of planning and how to identify and determine the future vision.
