Introduction
The chapter 1 “Understanding Team Principles” discusses how to organize the different types of teams in addition to differentiating between the traditional teams and the Self-directed Work Teams (SDWTs). And it also discusses the importance of team members and their roles and responsibilities, and the phases of building the teams, which includes; forming, storming, norming, and rapport, besides determining the effective goals. In the end, the chapter also discusses the importance of giving constructive observations and how to deal with the different kinds of personalities and how to resolve the disputes.
In the chapter 2 “Interpersonal Communications”; the trainees will also get to learn the importance of the team communication and the proper behavior criteria and their thoughts, and the roles restricted to a certain category of the members. However, the team communication could be misinterpreted due to lack of clarity. The would also be familiar with the verbal, non-verbal, active listening, different meanings of words, and the cues of the auxiliary and effective communication. As to the “non-verbal and effective communications”, we would learn that the non-verbal communication could be expressed through the facial expressions, eye contact, body movements and postures, language constructs, and environ elements. The trainees would learn the benefits of active listening and how to overcome the consequences of listening, and how to use the active inquiry.
In the third chapter “Conflicts”, the trainees would learn that the apathy and negative attitude are all indicators of the existing conflict among the group, and that conflict could arise as a result of the scarcity of resources, different backgrounds, different expectations, different attitudes or visualizations, plus the methods wherein the conflict could be beneficial or detrimental.
In the fourth chapter “Conflict Resolution & Handling”, the trainees would be familiar with the steps of resolving conflicts and that putting a plan for dealing with the similar conflicts would be beneficial in the future. The trainees would also learn that the current/ future respect and attitude, and listening from the point of view of the others could help resolve all the conflict in a positive way. They would also learn several methods for dealing constructively with the critique against their ideas, and how to identify the different types of conflict resolution.
In the fifth chapter “Decision Making”, the learners would learn the benefits of taking decisions in conjunction with others, and that the group decision making is comprised of divergent thinking, and convergent thinking, and the two elements of taking group decision; the content and process. They would be able to learn as well how to reach an agreement inside the team and how that the group thinking could influence the decision making process.
In chapter six “opinion poll”, the trainees would be able to learn the basic requirements and steps relating to the unanimous opinions. To reach majority, the team should mention and explain all choices, express and solve all problems, and choosing the optimum alternative then evaluating the personal agenda. The trainees should also learn that some of the people have erroneous beliefs about unanimous opinions.
