ABC Supervising Others

Introduction

Supervision is a door on which lots of us are knocking and in different fields. It’s the huge responsibility that requires from you, as a supervisor, to assume the required role to the max. However, how would my role as a supervisor change? And what are the issues that should be communicated to the employees if you were brought in as a new supervisor? And what are the issues that you may perform apart from the others for quickly learning the important skills?.

There are a lot of questions that usually come up to the mind of the supervisors, like: How could I make sure that the employees recognize my new role and respect my position as a supervisor? You might wonder if you have failed? However, what it means to be a role model to the others? This program would shed the light on all the answers to such questions and other questions. The responsibilities of the supervisor are represented in so many aspects; some related to the management, others related to the direct reports, and third related to the supervisor himself/ herself. The goals and objectives are the basis of planning. And there are a number of important elements in the process of planning and the element number one in planning is knowing what needs to be done, and the method by which we draft our goals is the biggest factor that helps us achieve these goals.

Communication is an integrate part In supervision; it’s relaying a message in understandable format to the other party. Supervisors spend around 75 per cent of their times in communication, and the two most powerful skills of communication - apart from the non-verbal skills - are our ability to listen and asking questions. Off the skills of supervision as well comes out the survey of information and paraphrasing. Feedback process is considered to be one of the most important skills of the supervisor. It could, however, be the most difficult and subtle managerial tasks. Therefore, the supervisor should accept criticism and learn how to request what they want.

The supervisor deals with the topics of orders, requests and suggestions, in addition to the dispute settlement. In both cases, there are some issues that the supervisor may follow, whereas the supervisor deals with the four types of the employees: the depending employee, lazy employees, hostile employee, chronically grouching employee, and each has his own way of dealing.

We remind all new supervisors that it’s important that they deal appropriately with all persons (whether workmates or board directors), and in order to be a successful supervisor in dealing with others, you should follow some of the instructions that would help you. Eventually, the supervisor should keep in mind that any relation is reciprocal; persons communicate with others in the same way they believe others would communicate with them too.
